Salesforce CMS
To manage contents (writing/creating drafts, planning calendar for publishing/un-publishing same) businesses IT systems called as Content Management System. There exist many such types of cloud based CMS systems like WordPress, Django-CMS etc. Salesforce has its own CMS offering which enable users to manage CMS contents right within Salesforce. It’s a hybrid CMS, which means you can have your existing 3rd party CMS contents connected into Salesforce CMS.

CMS workspaces
Its the structure in Salesforce where you can manage your CMS contents in collection. Traditionally you can connect external 3rd party CMS to your CMS workspace. You can access this as a CMS Workspaces tab in lightning experience.
Enhanced CMS workspaces
Enhanced CMS Workspaces provides a more flexible UI to create and publish contents. It helps you connect Salesforce CMS to your LWR sites. Enhanced CMS Workspaces are supported only in LWR Experience Sites. It enables a good multi-lingual support for contents via Multi-lingual LWR sites.
LWR (lightning web runtime) sites are Experience Cloud site that are build on top of LWR (Node.js runtime). To know more about Lightning Web Runtime Read Here
Note: LWR (Enhanced Sites) and Enhanced CMS are in BETA preview.
What are key differences?
- Publication Calendar/Import/Export/Languages feature seems to be missing in Enhanced Workspaces.
- Enhanced Content Builder Screen, provides the publish and unpublished options with more real estate to concentrate on the core content building function.
- You can use 3rd party extensions using the right sidebar on content creation page.
- Being used to with LWR sites, LWR sites have flexible URL formats over the traditional experience cloud site with ‘/s’ appended in the end.
(Note: In part 3 below, content search was not enabled in the content channel settings, as a result of which no search results were displayed in Aura site).
